Barnsley
Dial-a-Ride & Community Transport is a not-for-profit company with
charitable state and provides safe, friendly, flexible, accessible transport for
those residents who have mobility problems and are living in the Barnsley and District
areas. This includes Dearne Valley Community Transport, Penistone Rural Ride
and Coalfields Community Transport Initiative.
What Community Transport Offers
Dial-a-Ride
Dial-A-Ride is a door-to-door service using wheelchair accessible minibuses to
take residents from their homes to any destination within the Barnsley and
District are. This services is ideal for shopping, visiting and any kind of
journey where you can be flexible in your times. A subsidised cost is involved.
Dial-a-Bus
Dial-a-Bus is a door-to-door shopping service taking residents from their
homes to local shopping facilities. This has the added benefit of linking into
the Shopmobility service. Dial-A-Bus also offers a
Meadowhall shopper service which travels from five alternate areas to Meadowhall
every Wednesday. A flat, subsidised fare is charged for this service.
Access/Social Car
Service car is a service operating with volunteer operators using their own
vehicles or our wheelchair accessible car. This service is for appointments or
for travel outside the Borough. The cost for this service is again based on map
references and the mileage involved.
Group Hire
Group Hire is a self-drive hire service. It is available to local community groups
for outings etc. The groups appointed driver is required to take out driving
assessment and familiarisation training. Charges are calculated hourly and by
vehicle mileage.
Penistone Rural Ride
Again, an invaluable door-to-door, easy accessible, transport service running
in and around the Penistone area. This service can be used by anyone with
limited mobility who is registered with Barnsley Dial-a-Ride. So if you want to

Coalfield's Community Transport
Coalfield's Community Transport operates in the Grimethorpe area. This is an
exciting initiative and covers the services offered under Barnsley Dial-a-Ride
and Community Transport. So if you have limited mobility and reside in the area
you can take advantage of this valuable service - just give us a call.
Training Opportunities
Self-hire groups which are not-for-profit organisation can utilise self-drive
wheelchair accessible minibuses for their own use. This is underpinned by a
training and familiarisation programme which volunteers can, if they wish, take
to an NVQ level. If you are interested, give us a call and ask for John

More Volunteers Please
We can always use volunteer drivers, either to use their own vehicles or alternatively
to drive our vehicles. We will be more than happy to hear from anyone interested
in this scheme. You must be over 25 and hold a clean driving licence and full
training will be given. If you would like to volunteer to help promote mobility
