Partnership Celebration

The Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr. Howard Lavender, officially handed over a brand new wheelchair accessible minibus at Highfield Grange Day Centre on Tuesday, 25th January 2000.

Barnsley Dial-a-Ride and Community Transport is working in a dynamic partnership with Age Concern Barnsley to provide frail, elderly residents with door-to-door transport to a day centre managed by Age Concern Barnsley and funded b Barnsley MBC Social Services.

This service is recognised as having added value to providing quality experience for those resident who want to retain their independence at home but need some support at the Day Centre for either themselves of their carers.

This vehicle has been funded in partnership with Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council and operated by a not-for-profit operator under the stringent operating regulations within the Section 19 Minibus Permit operation. This is seen as a way of maximising the expertise of a number of different organisation to the benefit of individuals living independently in their local communities, i.e. Social Services asses and refer the residents to the Day Centre, Age Concern provides the dynamic and friendly environment in a day care setting, with a mixture of paid and volunteer staff and Barnsley Dial-a-Ride and Community Transport provides a dedicated, predictable and reliable door-to-door service, using a minibus with low steps, i.e. easy entrance and a passenger life for passengers with more severe mobility problems.

Membership Cards

A full vehicle inspection system has been installed on the computers and so to move to the next phase – computerised bookings - most registration cards will need modifying to include membership number and date of registration. The present cards are the same size as a credit card so the change to a smaller one may be welcome.

The system will accept bookings in two ways. By telephone, giving the registration number, this allows the user’s details to be brought up on screen and a booking is entered. You will still be able to make a booking at the desk in the shop but PLEASE make the booking personally and ask our staff to show you the booking.

Ken Dodd Show

A really good night was had by all that made the trip to Sheffield Crucible. A long night as well as Doddy did not leave the stage until 12 10. in the morning. How he manages to reel them off we don’t know.

Everybody had a good view of all the acts although a couple of small criticisms of the theatre are the very limited wheelchair access available and the quite steep steps to the seating.
